Bunny Hop: a working memory game for kids

Memory updating

Remember where the bunny hopped!

▶ Play Bunny Hop

A bunny hops around a 3×3 meadow. After each hop, your child answers: is the bunny on the same square as it was one hop ago?

This trains working memory updating — keeping the latest information in mind and replacing old information as things change.

Later levels ask about two hops ago and then three, answers must come faster, and tricky near-matches appear.

  1. Watch the bunny hop around the meadow.
  2. Remember where it was a few hops ago.
  3. Same square? Tap ✅. Different? Tap ❌.
  4. Answer before the next hop!

Why it helps

Based on the n-back task, a widely used working memory test. Grown-ups can see the n-back level and accuracy.

💡 Play a “what came before” game on walks: call out colors of cars and ask if the current one matches the one before.

Frequently asked questions

What is an n-back game?

You decide if the current item matches the one N steps back. Bunny Hop starts with 1-back and moves up to 3-back.

Does n-back training raise IQ?

No. Research shows it mainly improves performance on the trained kind of task.

What are the footprints?

At early levels, footprints mark where the bunny was to help your child learn the rule.
